When American Eagle released the first in a series of ads for its line of jeans, it put a beautiful young woman, Sydney Sweeney, up on the screen as so many clothing companies have done for decades. The tag line was “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans,” a pun on the idea that she has great genes, which arguably she does. It was funny and catchy. But the woke left jumped on it as racist and promoting white supremacy. On the right, we found it mean and silly and used it to further mock the progressive agenda. We bought jeans at American Eagle, we wrote songs, we made jokes. At the same time, the left attempted to cancel her and destroy her career. And maybe they’re succeeding. The attack on American Eagle and Sweeney represent the worst of America and what we on the right have been fighting against for years.
And then came Cracker Barrel’s logo redesign. I actually never knew what Cracker Barrel sold. When I traveled east and saw that logo, I figured they sold crackers. Or barrels. I didn’t even realize it was a restaurant.
