Israel has lost every war for the past 50 years
Sadly, it looks like it will lose this one, too.
The goal of war is to defeat your enemy. Wars are not won by ceasefires. Wars are not won by allowing your enemy to regroup and become stronger so they can attack you again.
The Allies indisputably won World War II. But they arguably lost World War I because, afterward, Germany became stronger, better equipped, better trained and more intent on world domination. Had the Allies actually won World War I, World War II would not have happened.

Thank you for some straightforward common sense. A war concludes, as you say, when one side is defeated, ideally by the surrender of that side. By that definition, the last major victory by the American military was World War 2.
Today's politicians and military leaders are too precious to promote their own country's survival. They care as well about the enemy's civilian population. This leads us to the midrashic warning, "Those who are kind to the cruel end up being cruel to the kind."
Israel should expel journalists from Gaza, and then flood the zone with military, searching building to building in a Gaza stripped of electric power. Let the Gazans taste the bitterness of their support for Hamas until they reveal the hostages' locations.
Let the Gazans have autonomy in the aftermath, provided it is not jihadist. Pay them to emigrate anywhere. I will contribute.
Extend Israeli sovereignty over the Seam Zone, and let Jews pray on the Temple Mount without restrictions.
